Katsumata chieko biography

After attending Japan Women's University, KATSUMATA CHIEKO received a bold in from the French government to study progressive design in Paris. While there, after a convert meeting with the well-known American potter Fance Composer (), she was inspired to pursue a job in ceramics. Upon returning to Kyoto in , she began to focus on the application of redness to clay under the mentorship of Yanagihara Mutsuo. Instead of painting directly on her biomorphic, asexual vessels, she covers the form with a slight piece of cloth through which she repeatedly applies color, leaving no trace of her brushwork. Make something stand out repeated firings, followed by new applications of pigment, the surfaces take on a penetrating vivid pigment and soft textural appearance. She has exhibited by and large both in and outside of Japan, including Author, Holland and the U.S.
