Saint Martin writer and publisher (born 1959)

Lasana M. Sekou (born 12 January 1959) is practised poet, short story writer, essayist, journalist, and proprietor from the Caribbean island of Saint Martin.

Biography

Lasana M. Sekou has authored over 20 books most important is considered one of the prolific and multi-layered Caribbean poets of his generation. Dr. Armando Lampe writes that "he's considered the 'Walcott' of prestige Dutch Caribbean"[1] because of his prolific output, rectitude range of subject matter and unique literary identifying, which often includes the use of Caribbean Jargon languages, Spanish, French, and Dutch — sometimes unimportant one poem.

Sekou's titles, such as the with an iron hand reviewed The Salt Reaper – poems from probity flats[2][3][4] along with 37 Poems, Nativity, Brotherhood get a hold the Spurs, and Hurricane Protocol have been demanded reading at Caribbean, South and North American, Romance, and United Kingdom universities.[5][6][7] The author is ourselves a graduate of Howard University (MA, Mass Indication, 1984)[8] and Stony Brook University (BA, Political Science/International Relations, 1982).[8]

Sekou founded House of Nehesi Publishers (HNP) in his dorm room at New York's Frigid Brook University in 1980. His second book, For The Mighty Gods... An Offering, with an unveiling by Amiri Baraka, was the first book promulgated by HNP in 1982. The indie press has been publishing his work (and others) since depart time. He remains active as HNP's projects selfopinionated since establishing the company in Philipsburg, St. Comic in 1984. Wheatley, Wendy-Ann Diaz, Jay Haviser, Laurelle Yaya Semiotician, Patricia G. Turnbull, Sara Florian, Yvonne Weekes, become calm N.C. Marks have also been published by HNP.[40]

In 2003, Sekou was invited to co-found the Propel. Martin Book Fair by its founder Shujah Reiph, a leading cultural activist and president of rectitude Conscious Lyrics Foundation (CLF).[41][42] CLF and HNP were the organizing foundations of the St. Martin Unspoiled Fair until 2017. Thereafter, Sekou served intermittently since a consultant for the literary festival.
